Places to Stay

a) Kimball is a quiet little town about 25 mins from the house, nestled against some mountains. It’s right off the interstate I-24, and is basically on the way for anyone coming up from Chattanooga, Georgia, Alabama, etc and anyone coming down from Nashville, Kentucky, etc. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, etc.

There are 6 or more reputable hotels in various price ranges (Quality Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, Hampton Inn, etc.)

The drive from Kimball is all state route 28 into Whitwell, straight, flat and easy for guests. Then from Whitwell, it’s just 5 minutes from there and you’re on the property. Very easy for guests to find, GPS and cell signal is fine the whole way. We’ll also have some signs posted.

The Quality Inn, Jasper, TN is right off the highway and would be the absolute closest hotel to the house, right at 20 minutes away. It is in Jasper, which is around 5-7 minutes just below Kimball. There are several restaurants and the Old town of Jasper is a quaint old town. Near Jasper is Foster Falls, a popular hiking spot, waterfall overlook, and rock climbing destination.

b) Lookout Mountain exit 174

Cummings Highway, off I-24, this is in between Chattanooga, and the exit for the venue in Whitwell. These are located right off the interstate easy to find.

This is around 30-35 minutes from the venue. This could be a good option for people who wish to get more of a Chattanooga experience, or to do any sightseeing on Lookout Mountain, Rock City, being close enough to the city, but also already on the ways a little bit towards the venue.  You can see a list of that clump of hotels here.

c) Chattanooga

For those who want to spend a lot of time in Chattanooga, staying right near downtown Chattanooga, is also a great option– for those who want to experience for of the city and all it has to offer.

There are many wonderful hotels and Airbnb’s in and around Chattanooga. We especially recommend this Airbnb for additional lodging!

Places & Activities

Some guests prefer to just enjoy the house and property, though there are also many things to do nearby– here’s a few suggestions and their estimated driving distance from the property:

• Watch the hang gliders and paragliders soaring in the clouds (there is a take off spot just at the top of the ridge above the house). We can often see many of them on a good day, from the yard (0 mins)
• Visit historic Ketner’s Mill (15 mins)
  Ketner’s Mill is a beautiful property along the Sequatchie River, with an historic mill that dates back to the 1800’s. Each October they hold a fair with over 150 artisans and food vendors, going on 41 years.
• Canoe/Kayak on Sequatchie River (15 mins)
  The Sequatchie is a very peaceful river, and there is a company in Whitwell that will rent them out, search: “Willis Farm Kayak and Canoe Rental.”
• Foster Falls (30 mins)
  Foster Falls is major rock climbing destination in the south It attracts climbers from all over the world. You can picnic, easy quick walk to the large waterfall overlook, hike down into the valley and watch the climbers, or swim in the large waterfall pool.
• Savage Gulf State Natural Area (30 mins)
  A 15,590-acre scenic wilderness area featuring sandstone cliffs, waterfalls & spring wildflowers.
• Hales Bar Marina on Nickajack Lake (30 mins)
  Go see the lake and marina, and they do boat rentals as well. Nickajack Lake is part of the Tennessee River.
• Prentice Cooper State Forest (30 mins)
  35 miles of Hiking trails, several overlooks, and trails used for off-roading, and horseback riding.
• Fall Creek Falls State Park (1 hr)
  Fall Creek Falls State Park is Tennessee’s largest and most visited state park. The park encompasses more than 26,000 acres sprawled across the eastern top of the rugged Cumberland Plateau. Laced with cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams and lush stands of virgin hardwood timber, the park beckons those who enjoy nature at her finest. Fall Creek Falls, at 256 feet, is one of the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States.
• Cumberland Caverns (1 hr)
  With more than 32 miles of caves and underground passageways, incredible underground rock formations, beautiful underground waterfalls, gleaming pools. They have daily walking tours & adventure trips.
• Chattanooga Skydiving Company (25 mins)
  Chattanooga Skydiving company is based in Jasper, TN where you can learn to tandem skydive or take classes.
• Chattanooga (40-45 mins)
  Chattanooga is loaded with lots of things to do, Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls, Point Park, Coolidge Park, Tennessee Riverwalk, Signal Point Park and more

There are 2 ways to come from Chattanooga, similar drive time, I-24 and then Route 28 the whole way (easy/flat until close to house), or through Prentice Cooper Forest (more winding/mountain pass, but very scenic)

Nashville, TN – 2 hrs
Atlanta, GA – 2 hr 20 mins
Knoxville, TN – 2 hr 20 mins

You will need your own car/rental car. There is a gravel driveway that is gradual and fine for any regular car to drive up. There is plenty of free parking next to the house.
